Birthday Celebrations for H.H. the Dalai Lama

This July began with a celebration of His Holiness’s the Dalai Lama’s 81st birthday. The day began with a smoke puja outside with the gracious presence of Ven. Rinpoche, members of the Tibetan community and many students and friends of Jampa Ling. After the smoke puja prayers were said in the shrine room and everyone gathered together afterwards for lunch and music and dancing. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way and to those who attended to celebrate His Holiness’s birthday!

International Day of Prayer

As requested by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, on Tuesday 19th July continuous chanting for world peace took place throughout the day, beginning after breakfast, right through lunch until the evening. We would like to thank everyone who took part, signed up for different sessions and to those who came along also. We pray that His Holiness’s wishes will bear fruition.

Building Work

Construction of a new septic tank began this month, which meant that we had to cancel our Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life retreat and our Work Weekend. The new septic tank will cater for Owendoon House, Tara House, the log cabin, retreat mobile and any future buildings on the grounds. It is a long term investment. Our grounds have been busy with heavy machinery and builders. Our volunteers and guests have not found the construction work too much of a hindrance. The work is expected to be completed during the first week of August. As the major part of the work has been completed our summer schedule will be continuing as normal.

Rinpoche’s Trip to Mongolia

Venerable Rinpoche is going to Mongolia on his annual trip to oversee his humanitarian projects in Mongolia and to see his Mongolian students. Venerable Rinpoche has been going to Mongolia every year since 1995. He is leaving on the 3rd August and returning on the 7th September. We wish him a safe and successful trip!

Community Gardening

Come and join us every Wednesday for our community gardening day from 10pm. Our main gardener, Aisling, will be there and she and the other volunteers would really love you to give them a hand.

WWOOFers

This July our two WWOOFers were from Europe, Céline from France and Pablo from Spain. Both WWOOFers have been a great help in the house and in the garden with Aisling our head gardener and our intern from Oregon, Blair. Thank you guys for your help!
