Winter Teachings – Finding Peace and Happiness in Everyday Life
We are honoured and extremely grateful that Ven. Rinpoche has accepted our request to teach during 2016 and 2017. Our fifth teaching was on the weekend of 11th and 12th March. Ven. Rinpoche taught on the ‘Recognition of the Nature of Wisdom’.
The text used for the teachings is ‘The Bodhisattva’s Way of Life’ by Shantideva. We express our sincere thanks to Ven. Rinpoche for his teachings.
Upcoming Easter Retreat – Friday 14th April – Monday 17th April 2017
This is a silent retreat. It is a led retreat using meditations on the teachings given by Ven. Rinpoche during the winter teachings. It is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the teachings and integrate them into our daily lives.
Wilson’s Hospital School Visit – Tuesday 28th February and Thursday 2nd March 2017
We had two groups of Junior Certificate students visit us for their school projects from Wilson’s Hospital in County Westmeath. The school visits us regularly for the past few years. The students and staff members were welcomed and given an introductory talk about Buddhism with an option for questions and answers in the morning, followed by a tour of the grounds, including the stupa. The students were guided in a short meditation in the Shrine Room in the afternoon and had a group photograph with Ven. Rinpoche and Lobsang.
Yoga and Meditation Workshop – Saturday 4th March and Saturday 25th March 2017
We had two Yoga and Meditation Workshops led by one of our volunteers and yoga teacher-in-training, Isabella, on Saturday 4th March 2017. The day began with some yoga and breathing exercises (pranayama) in the morning and with a tour of the house and a meditation session in the Shrine Room in the afternoon. There was an opportunity for questions and answers about Buddhism and Jampa Ling. A final yoga session concluded the day.
All proceeds were in aid of the House Purchase Fund.
Please contact our office or check out our website for further details of upcoming workshops.
St Patrick’s Day Parade in Ballinamore – Friday 17th March 2017
For the past few years Jampa Ling has taken part in the Ballinamore parade on St Patrick’s Day. This year’s theme was ‘An Nuacht – Make it your own’. Many of our volunteers were busy the days before the parade preparing materials and costumes to take part. The day was very wet, typical Irish weather for a national celebration, but well attended. Thanks to everyone who helped and volunteered with our preparations for the parade.
Tommy Tiernan Fundraiser – Friday 31st March 2017
At lunch time on Friday 31st March we were honoured to have Tommy Tiernan to come back to our centre and to do a gig this time in aid of the House Fund. Ven. Rinpoche, Ani-la and Lobsang attended the gig. The tickets sold out in a few days and we had over 70 people attend, including our volunteers. Refreshments were served on the day and it was enjoyed by everyone. We would like to thank everyone who helped in any way and for those who attended. We would also like to thank Tommy Tiernan for generously coming to us again. We also would like to thank to Sheila from the Keepers Arms, Sandra Mcintyre, Maguire’s shop, Templeport Resource Centre and all the people who volunteered to help made this a successful one.
Yoga with Isabella
One of our volunteers, Isabella, is a yoga teacher in training and she offers weekly yoga classes in Jampa Ling. Please contact us for further information. Donations are in aid of the House Fund.
Community Gardening
Come and join us every Wednesday for our community gardening day from 10am. Our main gardener, Aisling, will be there and she and the other volunteers would really love you to give them a hand.
Meditations at Jampa Ling
We have three meditation practices every day at Jampa Ling. We also have two additional meditation practices – Meditation for Beginners every Monday night from 7pm to 8pm and a Mindfulness/Awareness Mediation every Wednesday night from 7pm to 8pm – both are in Tara House. There is no need to book to come to these, just simply show up. They are donation-based.
WWOOFers
This March we had the same two WWOOFers, Tomáŝ from Czech Republic, and Marion from France. Thank you both for all your help. Marion finished WWOOFing with us in the middle of the month. We wish her all the best in her future.
Raffle Tickets
We would like to remind you about the raffle tickets that you may have received recently. There is no obligation to sell the tickets but we would really appreciate anyone who can. Please return both sold and unsold tickets to the office at Jampa Ling by 21st April 2017.
Proceeds are in aid of Jampa Ling’s House Purchase Fund and Asral NGO Mongolia.
