‘In order to develop realisations, you must first study what it is you want to become familiar with, for example love and compassion. What exactly are love and compassion?
Contemplate on their meanings and how they can bring benefit to yourself and others.
Finally meditate on them, by becoming familiar with these emotions and cultivating them within you.
This threefold process of study, contemplation and meditation practiced continually will bring about realisation.’
The Venerable Panchen Ötrul Rinpoche.
