‘Ordinary happiness is like the suffering of change. For example we might be too hot and move to a cooler place and feel happy. But after a while we become too cold and then want to move to somewhere warm again. Ordinary happiness is unreliable.

When wishing for ourselves and all sentient beings to be free of suffering and to have ultimate happiness we are wishing to be free from the three types of suffering; the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change and all pervasive suffering.

Being free from these three types of suffering will lead us to the state of ultimate happiness.’

The Venerable Panchen Ötrul Rinpoche.
