Asral NGO Mongolia
Helping to create a sustainable future for vulnerable families and children who are in desperate poverty, living in the coldest and one of the most polluted capitals in the world.
Sinéad Ní Gháirbhith from the Cheese Press in Ennistymon, County Clare, talks about her voluntary fundraising for the Mongolian people and their dire need for help. Asral’s core aim is keep families together and prevent children from going on to the street.
In 1995, Venerable Panchen Ötrul Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist Lama living in Jampa Ling Centre in County Cavan, Ireland, visited Mongolia with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. At the end of the visit His Holiness asked Ven. Rinpoche to stay, teach and help the Mongolian people. Since then Ven. Rinpoche has visited every summer.
Ven. Rinpoche’s charitable projects benefit hund reds of people now suffering as a result of ever increasing poverty since the collapse of the Soviet Union. He visits the prisons, orphanages and schools.
In 2001, Ven. Rinpoche formed Asral NGO to help both individuals and communities. Later on he formed Maitreya Charity in the USA to allow people support the Asral Projects from there.
